Yachad - Our Hebrew School
Congregation Sinai of Milford and Temple Beth Sholom of Stratford joined together to create a joint Hebrew School called Yachad.
Classes Meet Wednesdays at Congregation Sinai and Sundays at Temple Beth Sholom. In addition to studying subjects such as Hebrew, Israel and mitzvoth, the students have several opportunities each year to participate in plays and concerts.
In class, students gain a reading knowledge of Hebrew, develop familiarity with Israel, explore history and ethics, learn rituals for home and synagogue and build strong Jewish identities. The full curriculum is designed to prepare a student for Bar or Bat Mitzvah. A limited program, called Torah Scouts, provides the student with an ethical and cultural education.
The full curriculum includes:
Holidays, Hebrew, Siddur, Trope, Israel, Lifecycles, Cultural arts, Bible, Theology, Jewish Year, Jewish World, Ethics, History and Mitzvot.
Gesher’s curriculum is decided at the beginning of the school year with input from the students. The ‘08-09 curriculum was “Views of Jews in the Media.”
Yachad registers children for grades K-7. All grades meet Sundays, 4-7 also meets on Wednesdays. A post-Bar Mitzvah class, the Gesher program, meets twice a month. Torah Scouts meets on Sundays.
